Chalet du Barrage is a cozy café tucked away along Rue du Barrage in Waimes, offering a relaxed spot to pause during outdoor adventures around the nearby castle and hiking trails. This spot naturally draws hikers and locals looking to unwind with a drink and a light bite after time spent on the nearby paths.

The atmosphere is informal and inviting, with a small, attentive team that clearly values welcoming visitors of all ages—families with children included. It's the kind of place where patience with language barriers and a warm smile help create a down-to-earth, friendly environment.

Patrons often stop in for a well-made coffee or hot chocolate, along with simple homemade treats like an apple tart, which pairs nicely with a local beer. In fact, the café features regional brews such as Culminante, noted for its subtle rhubarb flavor that complements the rustic setting perfectly.

This café tends to thrive in the late morning to early afternoon hours, especially on days when the weather encourages hiking. It’s ideal for those who want to recharge without fuss—think warm drinks, easy snacks, and a comfortable place to rest tired legs.

Chalet du Barrage fits within the local rhythm as a practical and friendly waypoint rather than a bustling social hub or trend-driven café. Visitors looking for a genuine slice of Waimes life—simple hospitality framed by natural surroundings—will find it suits these needs well.

Great little hidden gem with delicious local beer (Culminante has a slight rhubarb taste) and very welcoming staff! Highly recommend (before) after a good hike around the castle.

Such a lovely little place. The lovely man serving us was super friendly and welcoming, very patient with our small boys and our poor attempts at speaking French. Nice warm coffee and hot chocolate and a homemade Tarte de Pommes. Wholeheartedly recommend stopping here after or before a hike. Thank you for your hospitality. So precious!!!

Pohpoh.
